For nearly three years, every evening ended the same way.
I lived alone on the tenth floor of a quiet apartment building, and before going to bed, I always brewed a fresh cup of coffee and stood beside my window. Across the narrow alley stood an old apartment complex that everyone believed had been abandoned for decades.
Its broken windows, faded walls, and empty balconies never changed. The building looked frozen in time, as though no one had stepped inside for years.
The neighbors often joked that it was nothing more than a forgotten shell. I never questioned them.
Until one unsettling night.
Something Moved
Last Thursday, just after 1:00 AM, I glanced toward the familiar building while taking the last sip of my coffee.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed movement.
A dark shape slowly crossed one of the dusty windows on the fifth floor before disappearing into the darkness.
I stared for several seconds, waiting for it to appear again.
Nothing.
After rubbing my tired eyes, I convinced myself it had simply been a trick of the light. Lack of sleep could make anyone imagine strange things.
Or so I thought.
Curiosity Turned Into Obsession
The following night, I couldn't stop thinking about what I had seen.
A few minutes before midnight, I switched off every light inside my apartment and quietly stood behind the curtain, making sure I couldn't be seen from outside.
My eyes never left that same window.
One hour passed.
Then another.
The silence outside was almost unbearable.
Just when I was about to give up, a tall, unnaturally thin figure slowly emerged from the darkness behind the dirty glass.
It didn't walk.
It didn't gesture.
It simply stood there, completely motionless.
Even from that distance, I had the terrifying feeling that it was staring directly at my apartment.
The Figure Never Left
Over the next several nights, the same scene repeated itself with frightening precision.
Every night, at almost the exact same time, the figure appeared in the same window.
It never moved.
It never disappeared until dawn.
No lights came on inside the abandoned building.
No sounds echoed from its empty halls.
Only that silent silhouette remained, watching.
By the end of the week, I had barely slept. Every evening I found myself standing at the window again, unable to resist looking across the alley, wondering whether the figure was waiting for me... or whether it knew I was waiting for it.
